Our heavy rainfall year, and the steady runoff from the roof down the driveway have killed it. I was confident it would have good drainage and never be affected by any of drainage problems hollies can have. Several feet from the driveway, on a good slope. A lovely holly tree was planted there several years ago - 6 feet tall and full of berries. I’ll give you an example from the yard of a friend of mine. It might seem mysterious, but it’s really quite logical. The result is that some trees are dying or dead. We’ve had too much rainfall and strange temperatures. This hasn’t been the best year for many of our plants. But when things go wrong with our trees, it can seem catastrophic. We need them for oxygen, cleaning the air, cooling our environs and the many, many products we harvest from them. They are our largest and longest-lived plants. The witches' brooming - twigs growing upright - on this holly is a sign of a fungal disease called Sphaeropsis.
